Overview:
Shrail is the division of D&T that develops sophisticated simulation software for transport and crowd dynamics simulator for studying the flows of pedestrian traffic and emergencies.
It is proven that the use of simulators during training allows for greater financial savings and a better standard of quality which, in turn, translates into greater safety and effectiveness.
Our simulators are for training the various members of staff of the railway network (station masters, drivers and maintenance personnel) or of local public transport (managers and drivers).
Safety, performance, effectiveness, quality, impact on sustainable economy and the environment are fundamental aspects to be taken into account during the design and implementation of a new railway system or the modification and upgrading of an existing system: the simulators by SHRail can help developers, design engineers and rail operators to achieve these goals.
Simugens Infections
The SIMUGENS software, developed in 2012 by D&T-SHRAIL, is an agent-based crowd simulator, able to reproduce the behaviour of large number of individuals in various situations, including urban areas, events, mass transit, shopping centres.
In 2020, following the outbreak of the COVID-19 virus, SIMUGENS has been expanded with a set of functionalities focused on the dynamics of the infections in large crowds and on the evaluation of possible mitigation solutions.
SIMUGENS can now simulate individual infections based on people distance and exposure time as well as infective objects or surfaces, calculating infection rates over time.
The SIMUGENS functions for infection simulation include:
- infection % for simulated populations
- infection exposure time and distance
- modelling of immune and infected people
- modelling of infected objects and areas
SIMUGENS simulations can assess infection rates for modeled areas under as function of:
- infection parameters
- people density and flows
allowing the evaluation of mitigation solutions such as
- crowd separation/segregation
- flow management and limitations
